Last weekend I installed the modified Volvo Calipers (Girling) on my 323i. all necessary modifications: - we plugged and welded the old mounting holes. - drilled new holes with an offset of 4-5mm to fit the caliper nearer to the center of the hub - make a washer of 2-2.5mm to get the caliper centered to the rotor. (I took a piece a metal 20x100mm and drilled to 13mm holes with a distance of 3") - make the caliper fit to the rotor protecting blade (don't know the correct word) - you have to cut it by 5mm - the brakepads are still staying about 1mm out of the rotors - I'll cut it. - then I made a T-piece to connect the two brake lines to the brake hose. Now the factory 5.5" ET18 rims fit perfectly, and there is enough space round the new calipers. One trick for rebuilding the calipers: you can also use ATE gasket kits to rebuild Girling Calipers, they fit, but the outer gasket is very tricky to install and can easily be damaged. If necessary I can provide the Partnumbers. I was not able to test the result of the upgrade, because the car is still not ready to drive. Maybe I can tell you till end of June, next week I'm in the states for a business tripp in Maynard MA area. If you need more information, please contact me.
